news from research
new grants at the department
As something new, we would like to announce the research grants that we have received and which have been started up a few times a year. We start with an overview of externally funded research projects, which have started in 2022 so far.
START - Centre for SusTainable AgRifood sysTem
All eight universities in Denmark have joined forces to create a new research center that will create interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers in Denmark and international partners. The new center START - Center for SusTainable AgRifood sysTems - is expected to play a central role in the development of future solutions for Green Transition in agricultural and food systems. From the very beginning, researchers from the department have been involved in shaping this initiative. The START secretariat is based at Aarhus University, which is led by a steering group with representatives from all the founding universities. The chairmanship of the steering group behind START will change every six months between the eight universities, which are the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, the IT University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School, University of Southern Denmark, Roskilde University and Aalborg University.
The center will carry out activities that will strengthen the interdisciplinary research collaboration in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. The center was officially launched at a "Kick-off" seminar at Sandbjerg on 21 March 2022, where we had 6 participants from the department. 70 researchers across universities and disciplines had the opportunity to meet each other with a view to initiating collaborations that can lead to interdisciplinary collaboration within Danish research in sustainable agricultural and food systems. The chairmanship of START will be held by Aalborg University in the second half of 2022.
diversity and inclusion training: making the unconscious conscious
What do you see in your mind’s eye when you hear the words 'administrative director’ and 'nurse'? You probably picture a man in a suit and a caring woman. But why? AAU's Committee for Equality and Diversity is launching a number of new courses that will help people break with unconscious bias.
During the spring and fall of 2022, it is possible to register for courses in unconscious bias, inclusive language and communication, inclusive management and cultural intelligence
The courses are free to attend and are aimed at all staff members at AAU. The courses are facilitated by the consulting firm ConnectingCultures and are held in both Danish and English. Find out more and sign up below.
Unconscious bias - Wednesday 1 June 13.00-16.00
Inclusive language and communication - Thursday 2 June 9.00-12.00
Inclusive management - Monday 23 May 9.00-12.00
Cross-cultural collaboration and cultural intelligence (CQ) - Tuesday 24 May 09.00-12.00
Sustainability workshop - "Future Transport and Mobility"
The Faculty of Engineering and Science invites Faculty researchers, established as well as emerging, to participate in the fourth internal Sustainability Workshop, ‘Future Transport and Mobility’.
Grasp the opportunity to be inspired by the ongoing AAU-Engineering research within the field, broaden your internal network, and present a poster, a proposal or merely an idea related to sustainable solutions for liquid fuels, transport and infrastructure, traffic planning and logistics, light materials for transport vehicles and other relevant topics.
By joining the workshop, you will
-
Influence the Faculty's profile definition within the area of Future Transport and Mobility.
-
Contribute to cross-faculty and interdisciplinary collaboration.
-
Strengthen your own research profile and expand your network.
-
Get access to process and funding support for early-stage research ideas and project development.
-
Contribute to AAU mission driven research and innovation.
Time: 30. May 2022 10.00-15.00. Location: AAU Energi, Pontoppidanstræde 111, lokale 1.177, 9220 Aalborg Ø

Meeting schedule for the Department committees
Being involved in the governing bodies at Aalborg University is one way to increase your influence and support the positive development of the university. We would like to encourage everybody to participate in this process. Therefore, in the future, an updated meeting schedule for each Department committee will be included in the newsletter, so that you know in good time when the meetings are scheduled. Please note that the agenda is prepared well in advance of the meetings, which is why any subject for the agenda should be submitted to the committee's representatives no later than one month before the date of the meeting. You will find the representatives of the committees here.
